Make Room  by  Laura Alary

This is the Season of Lent.

The Church is dressed in purple

The world outside has its own seasons and its own colors. These days we are in the gray time between winter nad spring. Some mornings the puddles are frozen hard and the bare branches of trees scrape a snow-white sky. Other days the air is warmer, ice is melting, and the air smells faintly of damp earth and rotting leaves. Under the ground seeds and bulbs ae sleeping, dreaming in shades of green. We are all waiting for spring.

In church we are waiting too, waiting for Easter. While we wait, we get ready.

‘Twas the season of Lent, when for forty whole days

God’s people were trying to think of new ways

To be more like Jesus----to love, care, and give----

In hopes that they’d choose the right way to live.

Valentine

love, compassion, selflessness, and devotion

Your Love

Jeremiah 31:3

……….  I have loved you with a love that lasts forever.

God's Love

Ephesians 3:18

May you have power together with all God’s people to understand Christ’s love.  May you know wide and long and high and deep.

Wow, this reminds us that God’s love is so great we cannot even grasp how big it is.  We can do things to make God sad, but he will never stop loving us.  This means his love for us is bigger than our actions

Make a Valentine for God

1 John 3:18

Little children, let’s not love with words or speech but with action and truth.

God’s love for you never, ever stops and it never, ever fails.  Imagine that with me for a moment.  God knows who you are, everything about you.  All the good things you are and all things you do and all the bad things you do, even your thoughts, and he loves you! Forever! Forever!  How amazing is that?

John 3:16

God so loved the world he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won't perish but will have eternal life.

Colossians 3:12-17

Therefore, as God’s choice, holy and love, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Be tolerant with each other and, if someone has a complaint against anyone, forgive each other.  As the Lord forgave you, so also forgive each other.  And over all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.  The peace of Christ must control your hearts-a peace into which you were called in one body.  And be thankful people.  The word of Christ must live richly.  Teach and warn each other with all wisdom by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.  SIng to god with gratitude in your hearts.  Whatever you do, whether in speech or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God the Father through him.

Show love through action

It can be difficult to be consistent with our words

and actions. This letter tells readers that their words should match their actions. When Christians say they love someone, the behavior should show that that is true. It’s easier to say we love someone than show them we love them. The next time you think about how much you love someone. show them!

Epiphany

Belief

an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists

The 12 days of Christmas is the period in Christian theology that marks the span between the birth of Christ and the coming of the Magi, the three wise men.  It begins on December 25 (Christmas) and runs through January 6 (the Epiphany, sometimes also called Three King's Day)

Also called Three Kings Day, At Epiphany we recall the visit of the Magi to the Newborn Jesus: "And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.  They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house saw the child with Mary his mother.  The prostrated themselves and did him homage.  Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (Matthew 2:9-12)

Epiphany is when the church celebrates the manifestation of the Son of God as the Savior and Messiah
